1. Introduction
Welcome to SpeakEng ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal data.
SpeakEng is an AI-powered English language learning application that helps users practice speaking and listening through interactive conversations with an AI tutor, story listening, and pronunciation exercises.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information
SpeakEng requires a Google account sign-in via Firebase Authentication. When you sign in, we collect:
- Firebase UID: A unique identifier assigned by Firebase
- Email address: Your Google account email
- Display name: Your Google account name
This information is used to manage your subscription and provide a personalized experience.
2.2 Local Data (Stored Only on Your Device)
The following data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:
- Learning progress: Listening streaks, completed stories, and exercise scores
- User settings: Language, voice, speed, and other configuration preferences
- Imported content: PDF/TXT/JSON files you import for story listening
- Audio recordings: Voice recordings for pronunciation practice (processed locally via offline STT, never uploaded)
- Conversation history: Your speaking practice sessions are stored locally on your device
2.3 AI Conversation Data
When you use the Speaking (Free Talk) feature, your text messages are sent to our backend server for AI processing:
- Message content: Your typed or transcribed messages are sent to our server to generate AI responses
- Conversation context: Recent conversation history (up to 20 turns) is included for context
- AI processing: Messages are processed by a third-party AI service (Groq) and are not permanently stored on our servers
2.4 Advertising Data
Our free, ad-supported version uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. Through AdMob, the following data may be collected:
- App usage data: Information about ad interactions (impressions, clicks)
- IP address: Used for approximate location-based ad targeting
- Device information: Device model, operating system version, and screen size
- Advertising ID: A resettable device identifier used for ad personalization
Note: Premium subscribers do not see any advertisements, and no advertising data is collected from them. You can reset your Advertising ID or opt out of personalized ads through your device settings.
2.5 Subscription Information
If you subscribe to SpeakEng Premium:
- Subscription status: Your subscription type (monthly/yearly), start date, and expiry date are stored on our server for validation
- Purchase token: A Google Play purchase token is stored for subscription verification
- Payment processing: Handled entirely by Google Play Store or Apple App Store; we never see or store your payment information
2.6 Speech Recognition Data
SpeakEng uses offline speech recognition (Vosk) for transcription:
- All voice processing happens entirely on your device
- No audio data is sent to external servers
- Voice recordings are temporary and used only for immediate transcription
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely for the following purposes:
- Providing the service: Generating AI conversation responses, tracking your learning progress, and personalizing your experience
- Subscription management: Validating and managing your premium subscription status
- Advertising: Displaying relevant ads to free users via Google AdMob
- Service improvement: Monitoring system performance and fixing bugs
4. Third-Party Services
4.1 Firebase Authentication (Google)
We use Firebase Authentication for user sign-in. Firebase is operated by Google LLC. Your authentication data is subject to Firebase's Privacy Policy.
4.2 Groq (AI Processing)
AI conversation responses are generated using Groq's API. Your conversation messages are sent to Groq for processing. Groq processes the data in real-time and does not retain user conversation data. Groq's data practices are governed by Groq's Privacy Policy.
4.3 Google AdMob (Advertising)
We use Google AdMob to display native, rewarded, and interstitial advertisements to free users. AdMob is operated by Google LLC and may collect and process data for ad serving and personalization.
AdMob's data practices are governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Google's Advertising Policies.
Opt-out: You can opt out of personalized advertising by adjusting your device's ad settings, or by subscribing to SpeakEng Premium to eliminate all ads entirely.
4.4 Google Play / Apple App Store Billing
Subscription payments are processed by Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Payment information is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.
4.5 Text-to-Speech
SpeakEng uses offline text-to-speech engines (Piper TTS) for audio playback. All audio generation happens locally on your device. No text data is sent to external servers for speech synthesis.
5. Children's Privacy
SpeakEng is designed for users of all ages but requires Google account sign-in. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us immediately at support@chatinsoft.com.tr.
6. Data Storage and Security
We take data security seriously:
- Local-first approach: Learning data, settings, and conversation history are stored on your device
- Secure authentication: Sign-in is handled via Firebase Authentication (Google)
- No payment data: We never see or store your credit card or payment information
- Offline processing: Speech recognition and text-to-speech work entirely offline
- Server data: Only subscription status and account identifiers are stored on our servers
- HTTPS encryption: All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted
7. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
- AI processing: Conversation messages are sent to Groq for generating AI responses (not stored by Groq)
- Advertising partners: Anonymous device identifiers and ad interaction data are shared with Google AdMob for ad serving purposes (free users only; subscribers are excluded)
- Legal compliance: To comply with laws, regulations, or valid legal processes
- Safety and fraud prevention: To protect against abuse, fraud, or threats to security
- Business transfers: In case of merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (users will be notified)
8. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Deletion: You can delete all local app data by clearing app data or uninstalling the app. To delete server-side data, contact us at the email below
- Ad personalization opt-out: Adjust your device's advertising settings
- Access: Local data is fully accessible on your device. For server-side data, contact us
- Portability: Your local data is stored on your device and accessible to you

9. Data Retention
- Local app data: Retained on your device until you clear app data or uninstall
- Server-side subscription data: Retained as long as your account is active. Deleted upon request
- AI conversation data: Not permanently stored on our servers; processed in real-time only
- Ad interaction data: Managed by Google AdMob according to their data retention policies
- Subscription records: Managed by Google Play Store / Apple App Store
10. International Data Transfers
Your conversation messages are processed by Groq's AI service, which may be located in a different country. Any data collected by Google AdMob or Firebase may also be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, as governed by their respective privacy policies.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by:
- Posting the updated policy with a new "Last Updated" date
- Sending an in-app notification (for material changes)
Your continued use of SpeakEng after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
